Healing Blossoms
This piece was created with a Chinese watercolor kit that I received as a Christmas gift from my mom in 1995. It’s warm pink blossoms emerging from a black and gnarled branch are very symbolic of what we were navigating at the time. My inspiration was simply to calm down and paint using instructions in this book I had been afraid of “messing up” for 30 years. Mama gave me this gift so many years ago and I wanted to show her that I finally put it to good use.

What is your inspiration behind this piece?
The inspiration behind this piece was simply to create calm in my mind and body during a time of stress. Each bump and strange angle in the branches represents my mother’s convoluted and scary journey of navigating a cancer diagnosis. Each blossom represents the victories we’ve had along the way.
